Paul Underwood
So, I’ve known Michael for over thirty years (though I’m sure it sometimes seems like longer to him) since he flagged me down one day as I drove to work. He wanted to find out if the “I Love Pedal Steel” bumper sticker on my car meant that I played the instrument. As it happens, I do, and he was looking to start a western swing band.
We’ve been wandering through each other’s lives ever since. Sometimes we’ve pursued separate paths due to pressures of work and whatnot. Most recently, we decided that the large band thing was too difficult to maintain, but that our mutual love of Cosmic American Music needed our unique expression. We fell into a near telepathic connection, spontaneously harmonizing and picking, drawing our repertoire from the great wellspring of CAM: The Louvin Brothers, The Everly Brothers, Gram Parsons and his fellow travelers and acolytes, and pretty much anything that attracted either of our attentions. Oh, and we also write original material. Our music makes us happy. We hope it’ll make you happy, too.

My musical journey started in a dirt-floor Mississippi Delta sharecropper’s cabin. Or not. It actually started with piano lessons as a kid, but I ignored most of the formal training in favor of playing by ear.
Later, a summer camp counselor taught me three chords on the guitar.
Much later, I formed the internationally famous high school jug band, “The Birch Johns.”
Much much later, I started what was planned to be an alternative western swing band, “Too Old To Care,” and I needed a pedal steel guitar player. So, when I saw an “I Love Pedal Steel,” bumper sticker on the car in front of me, I literally ran Paul off the road! Thirty years later, Paul and I are “Redux,” playing, singing, and writing Cosmic American/Americana Music: country rock, rock, country, jazz, blues, folk, bluegrass, western swing, and whatever else suits our fancy.
We’re glad you’ve joined us on our musical journey.
